2020 IDEA® World Convention

To support the exceptional work of exercise professionals and health coaches who are making a difference in their communities, Peter and Kathie Davis — founders of IDEA Health & Fitness Association — have established an IDEA World Convention Scholarship Fund to award up to five scholarships to attend the 2020 IDEA World Convention in Anaheim, CA July 8 — 12.

As an advocate for the advancement and development of industry professionals and a close partner of IDEA, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) is proud to support the administration of the scholarships. ACE believes in supporting fitness professionals in their career, advancing the industry and creating physical activity opportunities for communities to live happy, healthier lives.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recipients with a unique opportunity to learn from the best thought leaders in the industry, network with like-minded professionals, advance their careers and become better prepared to make an impact on individuals and communities around the country.

This scholarship is made possible by Peter and Kathie Davis, who established the IDEA Health & Fitness Association in 1982, and later established the first professional fitness certification organization in 1985—the IDEA Foundation—which evolved into ACE. They dedicated their careers to fostering professionalism in the health and fitness industry, and inspired millions of people around the world to lead healthier, happier lives.

Each scholarship award includes a stipend that covers:

+ 2020 IDEA World Full Convention registration

+ Travel expenses related to the 2020 IDEA World Convention
(i.e., flights, ground transportation, hotel, meal stipend)

Individual scholarship award amounts may vary and are determined by the IDEA World Scholarship Committee. Scholarship recipients are responsible for paying all taxes due on the value of the scholarship award. ACE to provide registration and travel booking support to scholarship recipients.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the IDEA World Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be currently certified by a nationally recognized organization as an exercise professional or health coach

Be a first-time IDEA World Convention attendee

Submit an application to include:

A brief essay (300-word minimum to 350-word maximum) on why the applicant wants to attend the IDEA World Convention, his or her impactful contributions to the world of fitness and why financial assistance is needed.

The application deadline is Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. No late applications will be accepted.

Winners will be notified of their status by April 15, 2020.

To apply for the IDEA World Scholarship, please submit the online application by Wednesday, March 18, 2020. at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Selection Criteria

The IDEA World Convention Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications and prioritize applicants whom they believe have demonstrated:

2020 IDEA® World Convention Cancellation Announcement

The 2020 IDEA World Convention, which was scheduled for July 8-12, in Anaheim, CA has been cancelled. Despite making every effort to host the event as planned or postpone it, IDEA determined that it could not take place due to uncertainty surrounding COVI9-19.

What Happens if I Applied in 2020?

If you submitted an application this year, it will be considered for the 2021 IDEA World scholarship award. You will receive an update on the status of your application by April 30, 2020. Winners of the 2020 IDEA Scholarship will be officially announced by March 31, 2021. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
